The Futaleufú River means “Big Water” in Mapudungún, the language of the Mapuches, the native people who used to inhabit the region before the arrival of the Europeans.

Discovered as a whitewater destination in the 1980s, the Futaleufu River has become known as one of the top five whitewater rivers in the world.

The river and the region together combine the beauty of nature, unspoiled remoteness and technically challenging whitewater to create a near perfect whitewater rafting experience.

Orígenes Patagonia is a committed locally based outfitter that adds a pinch of authentic Patagonia flavor to all of its excursions, thus creating a unique experience of memorable emotions.

Chiquito - Más o Menos

This is one of the most popular rafting sections of the river and is known as the Corazón del Futaleufú (The Heart of the Futaleufu).

The Futaleufu River winds through the Andes Mountains for 7.5 miles (12 km), and allows you  to experience one of the most dynamic and spectacular descents that this river offers, with challenging world-renowned rapids such as “Toro”, “Mundaca”, “ Puma ”,“ Más o menos ”among others. All while under the vigilant watch of an excellent group of highly certified guides, with vast experience on this same river who are eager to transmit their passion for the river and region.

Thanks to the safety, technical capability and professionalism of our guides, you will be able to securely descend this section and be ready to experience even more challenging sections of the Futaleufu River, if you so desire.

We start at the private put-in, the “Chiquito”, a quiet and suitable place for our guests where preparations will be made to plan and organize the descent of this first section of river: here our guides will give a detailed safety talk to the group and commence some training exercises that will be vital to descending the river.

Then … the adventure begins! Two hours of non-stop whitewater awaits with a few intermittent stretches of flat-water that will allow you to soak in the immensity of the surrounding landscape.

Upon arriving at the take-out, after the rapid called “More or Less”, the Orígenes Patagonia team will be waiting for you with a replenishing riverside lunch.

Terminator - Puerto Ramirez

This section is one of the great challenges on the Futaleufú, with 17 miles (27 km) of adventure, emotions and companionship, where the team will test itself to overcome spectacular world-class rapids such as: Terminator (V), Himalayas (IV), Mundaca (IV) and Casa de Piedra (V). This is the ultimate day of rafting which only the Futaleufú River can deliver.

In addition to the whitewater, the group will experience captivating landscapes that surround this beautiful valley and with luck encounter the fauna that inhabit the riverbanks, such as: torrent ducks, kingfishers and condors.

At Orígenes Patagonia we strive to deliver the ideal blend of river action and scenery, so we finish the day with 2.5 miles (4km) of swiftly moving flatwater, where we can just relax and enjoy the scenery and landscape, after the intense whitewater sections of the previous hours. It is a great way to unwind from the emotion of the trip and experience a true “Fullday” on the river.

We start in Azúl Valley, a beautiful place thanks to the majestic view of the Las Tres Monjas mountain range.

Arriving at the entrance of the river, preparations will be made to organize and plan the descent: here our guides will give a detailed safety talk to the group and commence some training exercises that will be vital to descending the river.

Then … the adventure begins! Fives hours of non-stop whitewater awaits with a few intermittent stretches of flat-water that will allow you to soak in the immensity of the surrounding landscape.

Upon arriving at the take-out, after the rapid called  “El Farellón”, the Orígenes Patagonia team will be waiting for you with a replenishing riverside lunch.
